The IBC is an academic conference sponsored by the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania, with extensive clout in the global bridge community. Established in 1988, the IBC is held annually and is hailed as the “Nobel Prize” in the bridge industry. Among its seven awards, the George Richardson Medal is the earliest and most influential award for latest bridge projects with outstanding achievements in design, construction and scientific research; the Gustav Lindenthal Medal is granted to bridges excellent in environmental friendliness, aesthetics, and social participation; and the Railway Bridge Award is for outstanding railway bridge projects.
